Real Sociedad attacker Takefusa Kubo and a handful of other Europe-based players took part in training Sunday after joining Japan's World Cup squad in Qatar.

Japan-based members of Hajime Moriyasu's 26-man squad have already assembled in Doha, while those playing in Europe are gradually arriving as their clubs head into the World Cup recess.

After taking part in passing drills, Kubo spent time practicing separately, while veteran playmaker Gaku Shibasaki of Spanish side Leganes went through his paces together with the J-League contingent.

Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, who has been dealing with a thigh issue, and Dusseldorf midfielder Ao Tanaka trained apart from the rest of the squad.

Ritsu Doan wrapped up his club commitments before the World Cup on a high note, helping Freiburg climb to second in the German Bundesliga with an assist in their 4-1 win at home to 10-man Union Berlin.

"It'll be great if I can come up with performances like today to decide (World Cup) games," Doan said. "I'm sure the 20 years of effort I've put in will yield results on that dream stage."

The winger set up Michael Gregoritsch for Freiburg's fourth goal, having earlier drawn a penalty that earned Union defender Diogo Leite a straight red and enabled Vincenzo Grifo to bring up his hat-trick from the spot.

Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma's arrival in camp is expected to be delayed by an illness that kept him out of his club's final game before the recess on Sunday.

Local media reported that the rising star had a high temperature but was expected to be available for Japan's opening World Cup clash against Germany on Nov. 23.

The Samurai Blue will play their last warm-up friendly before the Nov. 20 to Dec. 18 tournament against Canada in Dubai on Thursday.
