New York Mets pitcher Kodai Senga earned his sixth win after throwing seven solid innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, while Shohei Ohtani hit his 18th home run of the season in the Los Angeles Angels' 6-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners.
Senga (6-3) allowed an unearned run and two hits while striking out six and walking four in the Mets' 5-1 victory at PNC Park in Pittsburgh that snapped their seven-game losing streak.
The Pirates tied the score 1-1 in the fourth on two defensive miscues in the Mets' infield, but Mark Canha doubled in two runs in the seventh and added an RBI double in the ninth.
Senga retired nine of the 10 batters he faced between the fifth and seventh, with one runner reaching on an error.
"I wasn't good at all," the 30-year-old right-hander said. "I just didn't want to lose."
At Angel Stadium, Ohtani hit a two-run homer to right in the third inning off Bryan Woo, pulling the Angels within a run at 3-2.
Two innings later, however, the two-way star was called out on strikes to leave runners on second and third, with Angels manager Phil Nevin getting ejected for arguing the call. Ohtani finished the game 1-for-4 with two strikeouts.
