Yu Darvish became the second Japanese pitcher after Hideo Nomo with 100 MLB wins Friday despite a less-than-stellar effort in the San Diego Padres' 9-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies.

The Padres spotted Darvish (5-4) an early 6-0 lead at Coors Field, and the right-hander allowed four runs on five hits and four walks over 5-1/3 innings while striking out six.

Darvish expressed appreciation for those who made his milestone possible.

"I piled these (wins up) along with many teammates on a number of teams," he said. "I'm deeply grateful to them."

Manny Machado hit a two-run homer in San Diego's three-run first, while Trent Grisham and Gary Sanchez each hit solo shots in the three-run second.

Fernando Tatis Jr.'s sixth-inning homer sent Darvish into the bottom of the inning with an 8-1 lead, but three hits by the first four Rockies batters made it 8-2 and spelled the end of his start.

"My pitches were actually fine," Darvish said. "I left the mound with two on, but I wanted to get out of the inning."

The 36-year-old Darvish is now 100-79 in his MLB career and with 93 wins in Japan's majors, he is now seven shy of Japan's iconic 200 career wins milestone.

Shohei Ohtani also had issues on the mound, allowing three runs in five innings, but made up for it with his bat, going 3-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run in the Los Angeles Angels' 5-4 win over the Seattle Mariners at Angel Stadium. Ohtani did not figure in the decision.

Speaking on his pitching performance, Ohtani said, "It was the worst. My body wasn't able to move," but added, "I think my batting was better. The main thing is we won."

Ohtani surrendered a first-inning two-run home run to Jarred Kelenic, but tied it 2-2 in the third with his 17th home run.

Ohtani, who walked five, issued a leadoff walk in the fifth that led to the Mariners tying it 3-3. The Angels took the lead for good on Mickey Moniak's two-run sixth-inning homer.
