PHNOM PENH - Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Saturday sought stronger cooperation from ASEAN members in dealing with North Korea's missile and nuclear threats, as he kicked off his eight-day Southeast Asia tour for a series of leaders' meetings.

At a summit of "ASEAN-plus-three" -- the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Japan, China and South Korea -- in Phnom Penh, Kishida told his counterparts that Pyongyang's recent barrage of ballistic missile launches are a "clear and serious challenge to the international community and can never be overlooked," according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

Japan. South Korea to hold 1st leaders' talks in 3 years on Nov. 13

PHNOM PENH - Japan and South Korea will hold the first official talks in about three years between their leaders on Sunday in Cambodia, officials said, as both countries have shown willingness to improve bilateral ties after they worsened significantly over wartime labor issues.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will meet on the sidelines of Association of Southeast Asian Nations-related summits running through Sunday in Phnom Penh, the two governments said.

PHNOM PENH - The leaders of Japan and 10-member ASEAN on Saturday agreed to hold a summit in Tokyo in or around December next year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of their relationship, a Japanese official said.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his counterparts from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations also pledged to deepen their cooperative ties when they met in Phnom Penh, according to the official.
