A player on the Dominican Republic's Olympic baseball team was suspended for three months and dropped from the roster after testing positive for cannabis, the Dominican Olympic Committee said Saturday.

The Caribbean nation's Olympic committee and its baseball federation said the International Testing Agency informed them that a sample collected from infielder Diego Goris during June's final qualifying tournament in Mexico tested positive for the drug.

No replacement has been announced for the 30-year-old infielder. The Dominican Republic and Japan are set to face each other in the baseball tournament opening game at Fukushima Azuma stadium on Wednesday.

Baseball, removed from the Olympic program after the 2008 Games in Beijing, is part of the Tokyo Games this year as one of the sports nominated by the local organizing committee.
