A man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly pushing two people onto the train tracks at a station in Kawasaki neighboring Tokyo, police said, with investigations into his motive ongoing.

Takashi Akutsu, 32, is suspected of attempted murder after the two men sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No train was entering onto the tracks at Noborito Station on the JR Nambu Line, according to firefighters and East Japan Railway Co.

Akutsu has admitted to the allegations, investigative sources said. But he also said he does not know why he did it.

One of the two to fall onto the tracks, a man in his 40s, told police he had no previous issue with Akutsu and that he had "not even spoken" with the suspect. The police are continuing to investigate a motive for the case.

Akutsu appears to have pushed the man from behind who then collided into a man in his 50s, resulting in them both falling onto the tracks.

The incident took place at around 7:25 a.m. during the morning rush on a crowded platform that did not have safety barriers.

Following the incident, six trains were delayed by a maximum of 10 minutes, affecting around 9,300 people, JR East said.
