China's Shandong Taishan defeated Kawasaki Frontale 4-2 on Tuesday to claim a 6-5 aggregate victory in their Asian Champions League last-16 clash.
The visitors erased a 3-2 deficit from last week's opening leg in China thanks to a brace from Brazilian striker Cryzan and an injury-time goal by countryman Jadson that sealed their quarterfinal berth.
Sota Miura and Erison found the net for the J-League side, who were left ruing missed chances after dominating possession at Todoroki Stadium.
Shandong opened the scoring through Cryzan in the eighth minute after Takuma Ominami gave away the ball near his own goal.
They doubled the lead in the 25th minute from a quick counterattack that culminated in an athletic finish by Gao Zhunyi.
Toru Oniki's men soon pulled one back with their own rapid counter that led to Miura beating Shandong keeper Wang Dalei from a tight angle.
Frontale nearly had another goal late in the half, with Yuki Yamamoto hitting the woodwork and Marcinho stopped by an outstanding one-on-one save from Wang.
Erison tapped in to make it 2-2 after Marcinho's shot bounced off the upright in the 59th minute, giving Kawasaki a 5-4 aggregate lead, but Cryzan found the net from outside the box 14 minutes later to put the tie back on level terms.
Shandong keeper Wang was shown a red card late in the half for denying a goal-scoring opportunity to Erison, but the decision was overturned when a video review found the Brazilian attacker had been offside in the buildup.
Kawasaki continued to apply pressure inside the opposing area but were held off by a desperate Shandong defense.
Center-back Jadson quieted the home fans with his close-range finish from a corner kick in the seventh minute of additional time after the ball bobbled back and forth inside the Kawasaki area.
Shandong advance to a quarterfinal meeting against the winner of a last-16 tie between Yokohama F Marinos and Thailand's Bangkok United FC.
