New forward Erison and veterans Marcinho and Akihiro Ienaga each scored in J-League side Kawasaki Frontale's 3-2 Asian Champions League victory over Shandong Taishan in Tuesday's first leg of their round-of-16 tie.

Erison converted from the spot after a penalty just before the half-hour mark after the hosts were called for a handball in the area on a corner kick. After a dance-step run-up, the Brazilian drilled it home just inside the right post.

"I'm really happy to score my first goal since joining Kawasaki Frontale," Erison said at Jinan Olympic Sports Center Stadium.

"A goal and a win is a good start to the season. I want to thank those supporters who came here over such a great distance and dedicate this win to them."

The visitors doubled their lead a few minutes later when Marcinho ran onto a long diagonal pass from Yasuto Wakizaka and scored with a diving header.

Fei Nanduo beat two Frontale defenders from the back of the penalty area to pull one back for Shandong just after the hour mark before substitute Shin Yamada set up Ienaga's 79th-minute goal.

Yamada got under a goal kick near midfield and headed it into the path of Ienaga, who controlled the ball as he charged forward and beat keeper Wang Dalei.

The hosts closed to within one in the closing minutes when Jadson leaped high above the defense in the middle of the area and scored from a superb header.

The return leg is slated for next Tuesday at Frontale's Todoroki Stadium.

On Wednesday, Yokohama F Marinos will face their first test under new manager Harry Kewell in their round-of-16 opener against Bangkok United FC in Thailand, while J2 side Ventforet Kofu play Thursday at South Korea's Ulsan Hyundai FC.
