Japan captain Wataru Endo scored his first Premier League goal for Liverpool on Sunday as his late equalizer set up a dramatic 4-3 home win over Fulham.
The defensive midfielder came on in the 83rd minute at Anfield with his team trailing 3-2 and got his side back on level terms four minutes later, curling in a first-time effort from the edge of the box high into the right-hand corner following a layoff from Mohamed Salah.
Trent Alexander-Arnold squeezed in the winner a minute later from just inside the area to complete the comeback as Liverpool moved up to second on 31 points in the English top flight, two points off leaders Arsenal.
"Wataru was just so important...(He) won decisive challenges, super passing, a top goal," Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said.
Alexander-Arnold's free-kick hit the bar and ricocheted off Fulham keeper Bernd Leno into the net to give Liverpool a 20th-minute lead, but Harry Wilson steered home a low cross to level against his former club four minutes later.
Alexis Mac Allister struck a 30-meter screamer in the 38th minute for Liverpool only to see the visitors level again through Kenny Tete off a corner in first-half stoppage time, and Fulham led with 10 minutes to go when Bobby De Cordova-Reid headed home a cross before Endo's introduction.
"That's probably a side of his game that people don't really expect. We see him as kind of a...ball-winner, get it back, keep it simple, but he's got a great technique," Alexander-Arnold said. "I think he was a real game changer for us."
In the French Ligue 1, former Liverpool attacker Takumi Minamino got his fifth goal of the season as Monaco won 2-0 at home against Montpellier.
The Japan attacker scored for the second game running with a ninth-minute opener, blasting in a rebound after Vanderson's shot was saved by visiting keeper Benjamin Lecomte.
Wissam Ben Yedder robbed the ball off the Montpellier backline and netted in second-half stoppage time for Monaco, who sit third on 27 points as they chase leaders Paris Saint-Germain by six points.
In Belgium, attacker Ryotato Ito scored his second goal of the season as Sint-Truiden won 2-0 at Mechelen.
