India is interested in hosting the Olympics in 2036, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Saturday at the opening ceremony of the 141st International Olympic Committee session in Mumbai.

India has never hosted the Olympics. For 2036, more than 10 countries have shown an interest, including Mexico and Indonesia.

"India will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to organize the Olympics in 2036," Modi said. "This is the age-old dream and also the aspirations of 140 crore (1.4 billion) Indians."

He added India is also willing to host the Youth Olympics in 2029.

"I am very confident that India will consistently get the support of the IOC," Modi said.
