Japanese sport climber Tomoa Narasaki booked a second shot at Olympic gold with a third-place finish in the men's combined boulder and lead event at the world championships Saturday in Bern.

Jakob Schubert of Austria won with a total of 183.6 points, adding to the lead title he won on Aug. 6. Colin Duffy of the United States scored 160.7 for second place, and Narasaki had 156.7 on the final day of the championships in the Swiss capital.

The top three finishers qualified for next summer's Paris Olympics.

In the eight-man final, Narasaki topped the boulder round by solving all four problems but could only manage seventh place in the lead round, giving him enough points to grab third place on the podium.

"I've never felt this happy finishing third," said the 27-year-old from Utsunomiya, eastern Japan, whose wife is Tokyo Olympic sport climbing bronze medalist Akiyo Noguchi.

"Things haven't gone my way this season. There was a lot of pressure on me (to do well this time). I'm really relieved. I want to win the gold medal next time."

At the Tokyo Olympics, Narasaki finished fourth in the combined event.

Narasaki's compatriot, 16-year-old reigning World Cup champion Sorato Anraku, placed fourth overall with 149.1.
