Shohei Ohtani had two extra-base hits with an RBI and two stolen bases Saturday as the Los Angeles Angels beat the New York Mets 5-3.

The two-way star doubled and scored the game's first run in the first inning at Citi Field. He then added an RBI triple in a four-run second that pushed the Angels' lead to 5-0.

Ohtani went 2-for-3, walked twice, once intentional, and scored twice in the Angels' second straight win after four losses in a row.

The 2021 American League MVP has gone 4-for-10 since being limited to the designated hitter role after he was diagnosed with a tear in his right ulnar collateral ligament.

Earlier in the day, Angels general manager Perry Minasian said the Angels had suggested Ohtani have a precautionary MRI taken before the injury forced him from the mound.

"The imaging was offered earlier in the year, and him and his representation turned it down," Minasian said. "And I understand why. It was a cramp in his finger, and they didn't believe it warranted imaging. So that's where that is."

Among other Japanese players, Chicago Cubs right fielder Seiya Suzuki extended his hitting streak to nine games and went 2-for-5 with three RBIs in a 10-6 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

"I'm swinging the bat aggressively, and that has led to good results," said Suzuki, a two-time batting champion in Japan's Central League.

The Cubs are four games behind the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers and second in the wild card standings for three available spots.

"It's tough, but I'll do my best until the end (of the season) without losing my concentration. It's nice to be able to contribute at such an important time."
