South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol told Ukraine's first lady Olena Zelenska when they met Tuesday that his country is keen to provide more nonlethal military aid to the Eastern European nation, his office said.

Yoon was quoted by presidential office spokesman Lee Do Woon as saying to Zelenska that South Korea "will actively support the Ukrainian people in close coordination with NATO member states and the international community." This was in response to her request for "increased aid in areas where it is possible," Lee added.

The first lady, who is in the country as a special envoy of her husband, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is seeking aid in the form of equipment, such as mine detectors and ambulances, as well as economic assistance, Lee said.

Out of consideration for Russia, South Korea does not provide lethal aid to Ukraine.

Zelenska also met separately with Yoon's wife, Kim Keon Hee, and asked for the South Korean government and people to assist in Ukraine's postwar rebuilding.
