South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will meet with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida Sunday on the sidelines of a Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima, the presidential office said on Thursday, as bilateral relations continue to thaw.

Yoon has been invited to the three-day G-7 summit, starting Friday, as a guest. He and Kishida are expected to discuss various issues, such as enhancing security cooperation in the face of North Korea's missile development and other challenges in Asia.

The two leaders are scheduled to visit a monument dedicated to Korean victims of the 1945 U.S. atomic bombing of the western Japanese city together.

The meeting will be their third in two months. Yoon traveled to Tokyo in mid-March for talks with Kishida, while the prime minister visited Seoul earlier this month.

Relations between Japan and South Korea soured under Yoon's predecessor Moon Jae In following a dispute over wartime labor compensation.

Yoon, who became president last year, has been taking steps to improve bilateral relations with Japan, proposing a solution to the compensation issue in March.
