England's Rugby Football Union appointed former Japan assistant coach Steve Borthwick as their new head coach on Monday.

England, who will meet Japan, Argentina, Samoa and Chile in Pool D at the World Cup starting next September in France, parted ways with former head coach Eddie Jones earlier this month.

Former England lock and captain Borthwick worked under Jones when Japan claimed historic three wins at the 2015 World Cup in England.

The 43-year-old was also the forwards coach under Jones when they finished runners-up at the 2019 World Cup in Japan before he served as the head coach at club side Leicester, guiding them to a domestic league title last season.
