Japan's Miho Takagi finished second in the women's 1,500 meters at the season's second World Cup speed skate meet Saturday, with compatriot Wataru Morishige also winning silver in the men's 500.
After winning last Saturday's 1,500 in Norway, Takagi fell short this time in Heerenveen in the Netherlands, where Dutch skater Antoinette Rijpma won in 1 minute, 53.73 seconds.
Takagi made a good start to her race but ran out of steam late on and crossed 0.19 back. Marijke Groenewoud of the Netherlands was third.
"I do feel I'm yet to raise my skating efficiency to its maximum," Takagi said. "Because it's nothing I can't deal with mentally, I'll will keep doing what I need to."
Morishige clocked 34.45 in his race, 0.11 behind Canadian winner Laurent Dubreuil. Merijn Scheperkamp of the Netherlands was third.
"It was a satisfying race. It was great I could make use of my strength (with the strong second half)," Morishige said.
