Beijing Olympic figure skating silver medalist Yuma Kagiyama will miss the entire Grand Prix season with a left ankle injury, the Japan Skating Federation said Friday.

The 19-year-old Kagiyama was scheduled to compete at the season-opening Skate America from Oct. 21 to 23 and the Nov. 4 to 5 Grand Prix de France, the third event of the series.

Kagiyama missed the Japan Open mixed team event last Saturday. His recovery from injuries suffered in late August has not been fast enough to compete.

"Because of my diagnosis, I was told that it would be difficult for me to take part," Kagiyama said. "I'll continue to focus on treatment and try to prepare for and perform at the national championships in December."

At the Beijing Olympics in February, Kagiyama finished second behind Nathan Chen of the United States, while Japanese compatriots Shoma Uno and Yuzuru Hanyu finished third and fourth, respectively.
