Junya Ito on Sunday found the net in his third straight match and for the eighth time this season as Genk won 2-0 away at RFC Seraing.

The win meant Genk held onto eighth place and secured a spot in the Europa League playoff on the last day of the regular season.

Ito netted in the 44th minute to give Genk the lead and the Japanese player's Norwegian teammate Kristian Thorstvedt doubled the margin nine minutes into the second half, which Seraing played a man down after Ivorian defender Kouadio-Yves Dabila was shown a late first-half red card.

Ito rounded goalkeeper Guillaume Dietsch and toed into the net just before being closed down by a defender in the must-win match for Genk.

Sint-Truiden also got a victory on Sunday, putting them on 51 league points and requiring Genk to win to keep eighth place.

"I was focused on winning. (Ninth place) Sint-Truiden won, too, so we were in danger," Ito, who was named man of the match, said.

For Sint-Truiden, Japanese players Taichi Hara and Daichi Hayashi as well as Brazilian Klauss scored in a 3-0 home victory over Standard Liege. Sint-Truiden missed out on a Europa League playoff place on goal difference.

In the Belgian Pro League, the top four teams in the regular season play a championship round for the league title while the next four teams battle for a place in the Europa League.

In the Portuguese first division, Santa Clara came out the winner of their duel against Estoril 2-0 thanks to goals from Japanese striker Kyosuke Tagawa and Ricardinho.
