Ryoyu Kobayashi landed in ninth after the men's ski jumping large hill qualification round on Friday at the Beijing Olympics.

With a score of 121.3 and a leap of 128 meters, the normal hill gold medalist at these games slotted safely into the pack at Zhangjiakou Ski Jumping Centre.

Marius Lindvik of Norway had the jump to beat, logging 136.4 points on a flight of 135 meters, while his countryman Halvor Egner Granerud was second and Slovenia's Peter Prevc third.

Of the other Japanese jumpers, Yukiya Sato finished 23rd, Naoki Nakamura 26th and Junshiro Kobayashi, Ryoyu's older brother, ranked 32nd.

The large hill medals will be handed out on Saturday, with Ryoyu looking to complete the individual event golden sweep in China.
