Japan's Nasa Hataoka finished in a tie for 11th place at the Volunteers of America Classic on Sunday while American Angela Stanford clinched a two-stroke victory near her hometown of Fort Worth.
Hataoka, who started the final round at Old American Golf Club one shot off the pace, mixed two birdies with five bogeys for a 3-over-par 74 and ended the final U.S. Women's Open tuneup tournament even with the card at 284, seven shots behind Stanford.
"I hit bogey after bogey on the front nine. If I could have sunk just one birdie on the front nine, I think I could have been more aggressive on the back. I'm still not confident in my shots," Hataoka said.
Stanford, who won her first LPGA Tour title in two seasons, carded a 4-under 67 to finish two shots clear of the three overnight co-leaders -- South Koreans Ryu So Yeon and Park In Bee, and American Yealimi Noh -- who each shot 70 to finish at 5-under after four rounds.
The U.S. Women's Open, the final women's major of the 2020 season, starts on Thursday at Champions Golf Club in Houston.
