The Tokyo metropolitan government confirmed 165 new coronavirus infections on Friday, up from 46 the previous day, sources close to the government said.

It marked the first time since Tuesday that the tally for the Japanese capital has topped 100. New infection cases came to 47 on Wednesday, a national holiday.

Tokyo, which marked the highest daily count of 201 on April 17, has seen the number of new daily infections staying above 100 for most of April.
