SoftBank Group Corp. is among several potential buyers for U.S. newspaper publisher Tronc, U.S. online news outlet Axios reported Monday, quoting a source familiar with the situation.

Other possible buyers for the struggling newspaper publisher include U.S. private equity firm Apollo Global Management, according to Axios.

Tronc owns the Chicago Tribune and Baltimore Sun among other papers. It has been in trouble due to the rise of digital news and decline in print advertising revenue.

In February, Tronc agreed to sell the Los Angeles Times, the San Diego Union-Tribune and other regional papers to billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong for $500 million.
