The Japan Times Ltd., publisher of the English-language daily, will hold a forum in Tokyo on Feb. 13 to raise public awareness of a public-private consortium it established to help revitalize regional economies promoting resources unique to each area.

At the event the Tokyo-based company will host presentations and panel discussions by practitioners and an advocate of so-called Satoyama Capitalism, a project which urges the use of natural resources to foster a sustainable future for local communities.

The Japan Times Satoyama Consortium will provide information, through articles to be published via Japan's oldest English daily, about initiatives by individuals, groups, local governments and corporations that have strived to promote local economies by making good use of natural resources.

By doing so, the consortium intends to introduce community-rooted industries to potential consumers abroad, its spokesman said.
