Danish Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary will make a four-day visit to Japan from Oct. 9 to commemorate 150 years of bilateral diplomatic ties, the Japanese government's top spokesman said Tuesday.

During their official working visit, the couple will attend a luncheon with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko as well as meeting Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a press conference.

Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito visited Denmark in June as part of the 150-year commemorations.

"We hope this visit will further develop (Japan's) relationship of friendship, goodwill and cooperation with Denmark, an important partner that shares our basic values," Suga said.
