North Korea will hold a set of events aimed at eulogizing three generations of the ruling Kim family in mid-August, its official media said Tuesday.

The five-day "international" political and cultural events in Pyongyang and Mt. Paektu will begin Aug. 13, according to the Korean Central News Agency.

The celebrations will also be attended by foreign guests, including those belonging to political parties and organizations having had friendly ties with North Korea, it said.

The gatherings will take place as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has made significant progress in consolidating his power and developing weapons technology.

North Korea unveiled last October its plans to hold a series of events in 2017 as this year coincides with the fifth anniversary of Kim becoming its top leader, the 105th birth anniversary of its late founder, Kim Il Sung, and the 75th birth anniversary of Kim Jong Il, the previous leader who died of heart failure in late 2011.
