The rainy season appears to be over in the Hokuriku and Tohoku regions in central and northeastern Japan, the weather agency said Wednesday, declaring an end to the early summer wet season throughout the Japanese archipelago.

The rainy spell started around June 21 in both regions. Japan's rainy season usually begins in May in the southern island prefecture of Okinawa, before moving up to northeastern areas except for Hokkaido, the northernmost of Japan's four main islands.

The rainy season ended in the Hokuriku region along the Sea of Japan coast in central Japan nine days later than the average year and 14 days later than last year, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

In the Tohoku region in northeastern Japan, the season ended five days later than the average and four days later than last year for its northern part, and eight days later than the average and four days later than last year for its southern part, the agency said.

The weather will mostly be fine for about a week in Hokuriku and areas in Tohoku along the Sea of Japan coast, which will be covered by high atmospheric pressure, the agency said, adding the Pacific coast in Tohoku may see cloudy days.
