The Idol Formerly Known As LADYBABY, Japan’s international rule breakers, threaten to lick all who underestimate them with their second single, 'Pelo', which was released worldwide yesterday.

Pelo, the title song from the six-track single, is Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound of licking. The lyrics are feisty indeed (“Underestimate me, and you’ll get licked.”), with the duo sticking their tongues out at anyone who might stand in their way.

Current band members Rie Kaneko and Rei Kuromiya were originally part of the trio, LADYBABY who made a number of popular music videos.  Their debut single, Nippon Manju, went viral upon its 2015 release, accumulating more than 19 million hits on YouTube.  The video also made an appearance on FBE’s popular YouTube ‘React’ series, getting some two million hits for the episode, ‘Elders React to LADYBABY’.

As LADYBABY, the trio sold out headline shows in New York, Los Angeles, and Cologne, as well as featuring as a guest at London’s Hyper Japan event.

In 2016, LADYBABY became a duo (changing their name to The Idol Formerly Known As LADYBABY) and signed with major Japanese label King Records.

The second single, ‘Pelo’ is available now as a regular digital download through iTunes, Amazon Music and similar services.
