Fifteen-year-old Reira Iwabuchi of Japan claimed victory in the women's big air competition at a snowboard World Cup meet on Sunday.

In her third World Cup appearance and final big air event of the season before the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Iwabuchi landed a backside 1080 on her final jump to earn a combined score of 169.25 for her first career World Cup gold.

"I'm happy, that's all I'm feeling now. I was in a good position after my second run but I didn't want to play it safe and regret later so it was good I went aggressively," said Iwabuchi, who is competing in her first World Cup season.

"I wasn't too concerned about how I placed in this meet. I tried to go out and do what I want."

When asked if she feels competing in Pyeongchang is now a realistic goal, she said, "I'm too happy now, I can't think that far ahead."

Iwabuchi had a score of 85.00 and 84.25 in her first and third run, respectively.

The top two runs out of three are counted in big air, which will make its Olympic debut at the Pyeongchang Games in February.

According to the International Ski Federation, Iwabuchi, who turns 16 on Thursday, is the ninth youngest rider ever to win a World Cup.

She placed fourth in slopestyle in September for her best performance before Sunday.
