U.S. star Ilia Malinin won his first men's singles title Saturday at the world championships in Montreal, ending the two-year reign of Japan's Shoma Uno.
Japanese Olympic silver medalist Yuma Kagiyama was second, France's Adam Siao Him Fa third, while short program winner Uno finished fourth after a disappointing free skate.
The 19-year-old Malinin landed six quadruple jumps, including a quad axel, to amass a 333.76 total and finish 24.11 ahead of Kagiyama at Montreal's Bell Centre.
Kagiyama claimed his third world championship silver medal following a free skate in which he fell after landing a triple axel but was otherwise flawless.
Two-time defending champion Uno, who narrowly led Kagiyama and Malinin after the short program, struggled from the start of his free skate routine. He fell on his opening quad loop and touched the ice to save two other jumps on his way to sixth place for the segment.
Japan's Kao Miura, competing in his first world championships, was eighth overall.
Beijing Winter Olympic bronze medalist Kaori Sakamoto on Friday became the first woman since 1968 to win three straight singles world championships.
