The Olympic gold-medal match between the Swedish and Canadian women's football teams will be held at a different venue near Tokyo at a later time than scheduled due to the summer heat, organizers said Thursday.

The kickoff is now set for 9 p.m. on Friday at Nissan Stadium in Yokohama. It was initially due to start at 11 a.m. at the National Stadium in Tokyo.

The venue and time change came after the Swedish and Canadian football associations asked for the match to start at a different time because of the scorching heat in Tokyo.

The men's bronze-medal match between Japan and Mexico will be moved to an earlier kickoff at 6 p.m. from 8 p.m. at Saitama Stadium on Friday to prevent an overlap with the women's football final, the organizers of the Tokyo Olympics said.

Japan's summer heat has raised concern about athletes' performance and health at the games. In some parts of Tokyo, the mercury rose above 36 C on Thursday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
