The International Paralympic Committee completed the approval process for competition venues at the 2020 Tokyo Games on Wednesday, giving the green light to the setting for road cycling events.

At the meeting held ahead of the Pyeongchang Winter Paralympics, the IPC Governing Board confirmed the plan that road cycling events at the Summer Games in Japan will be held at Fuji International Speedway near Mt. Fuji. With the confirmation, the venues for all 22 sports at the next Summer Paralympics have been approved.

The cycling events were originally scheduled to be held in Odaiba Marine Park in Tokyo's Minato Ward when Japan was bidding for the games.

However, the games organizers began considering relocating the venue to the speedway in Shizuoka Prefecture following a request from the International Cycling Union that the course be changed so that athletes can race with Japan's highest mountain in the background for broadcasting purposes.

Toshiro Muto, CEO of the organizing committee, said, "I am glad that we were able to finalize the venue for road cycling events today. I believe that it will serve as a great stage for the athletes and provide an excellent spectator experience."

The International Olympic Committee said in February that the road cycling at the Summer Games will begin from Musashinomori Park in suburban Tokyo and end at the Fuji International Speedway.

The Tokyo Paralympics are scheduled to be held between Aug. 25 and Sept. 6, following the July 24-Aug. 9 Olympics.
