Two-way star Shohei Ohtani hit a pair of two-run home runs as the Los Angeles Angels beat the Chicago White Sox 12-5 on Wednesday.
Mike Trout, Taylor Ward and Chad Wallach also homered for the Angels, who finished May in third place in the AL West behind the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros.
In his first two-homer game of the season, Ohtani drove a first-pitch fastball from Lance Lynn over the wall in center in the third inning, pushing the Angels' lead to 4-1 at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Ohtani connected off Lynn again an inning later, this time to right-center on a full-count fastball, for his 15th home run, making it 8-1.
"I'm feeling good right now, putting things on pitches that I should be hitting hard," he said through interpreter Ippei Mizuhara.
Asked whether he had changed something mechanically, Ohtani said, "The most important thing for me is my setup and how I'm seeing the ball in my setup."
Ohtani finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBIs, flying out and drawing a walk in his other plate appearances.
Among other Japanese players, Masataka Yoshida hit a solo home run among his two hits in the Boston Red Sox's 5-4 loss to the Cincinnati Reds at Fenway Park.
