About 90 skaters from 14 countries are scheduled to take part in a new international skateboarding event, Tokyo Uprising, at Tokyo's Ariake Arena for three days from May 26, Rakuten Group Inc. said Tuesday.

The event is a collaboration between Olympic men's street champion Yuto Horigome and the e-commerce company, which said Tokyo Olympic women's street gold medalist Momiji Nishiya and bronze medalist Funa Nakayama will be among those taking part.

Amateur skaters from around the world will also compete.

With fashion and music events also planned, senior Rakuten official Takafumi Oba said, "We want this to be a cultural event, rather than just a skateboarding meet."
