Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Sunday underscored the importance of their joint visit to a cenotaph dedicated to the Korean victims of the atomic bombing in 1945 as they held talks on the fringes of the Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima.

At the outset of their talks, Kishida said the visit was "meaningful for bilateral ties and also in praying for world peace."

Yoon said the visit will be "remembered as a brave action from the prime minister to prepare a peaceful future together."
