Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Kokona Hiraki claimed her first X Games gold in the women's skateboarding park competition Saturday after rain kept athletes off the course at Chiba's Zozo Marine Stadium.

With multiple skateboarding and BMX finals scheduled for Day 2 of X Games Japan 2023, the persistent rainfall forced organizers to use the previous day's elimination-round results for the final standings.

That left the 14-year-old Hiraki on top after she qualified for the final with an 83.33 total. American Ruby Lilley was runner-up, while Japan's Yurin Fujii finished third.

"I'm happy that I was able to give it my all in the first run of qualifying," Hiraki said.

Japanese Olympic champion Momiji Nishiya placed second in women's skateboarding park, with Tokyo Games silver medalist Rayssa Leal of Brazil taking the crown. Japan's Rizu Akama was third.

Tokyo Olympic winner Keegan Palmer of Australia was once again king of the men's skateboarding park, with Americans Cory Juneau and Gavin Bottger second and third, respectively.

In BMX park, American Daniel Sandoval's qualifying total of 87.00 was enough to break Australian Olympic champion Logan Martin's stranglehold on the event.

Sandoval finished 0.67 clear of the second-place Martin, who was gunning for his fifth straight X Games park win, while Japan's Rim Nakamura was seventh.

The 28-year-old Sandoval said he threw everything into Friday's qualifying round knowing rain could impact the final.

"Going into it with the mindset yesterday that it might not happen today was a little bit different," he said. "We were all going in knowing this could be the final result. I'm just happy with how I rode and that I came out on top."
