Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. local time on Thursday in Thailand for the first summit between the leaders of the two countries in roughly three years, government sources said Wednesday.

The meeting in Bangkok comes amid concerns over heightened regional tensions over Taiwan and Chinese maritime activity around the Japan-controlled, China-claimed Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea.
