Japan's Shun Sato reached the podium for the second time in figure skating's Grand Prix series on Saturday, taking bronze at the MK John Wilson Trophy meet won by Italy's Daniel Grassl.

The 18-year-old Sato, who won silver last November in Grenoble, France, improved one place following the men's short program in Sheffield. He earned the third-highest free skate score of 166.35 to total 249.03.

Grassl, who was second in the short program, totaled 264.35, while Latvia's Deniss Vasiljevs won silver with 254.56.

Japan's Koshiro Shimada finished fourth on 247.17, while countryman and Grand Prix debutant Tatsuya Tsuboi totaled 226.13 in fifth place.

In the women's competition, reigning Four Continents champion Mai Mihara will go into the free skate in first place after scoring 72.23 for her short program. She leads American Isabeau Levito by 0.17.
