Japan attacker Takefusa Kubo came off the bench to set up the winner as Real Sociedad edged Cypriot side Omonia 2-1 on Thursday for their second straight win in the Europa League.

A week after starring at Old Trafford against Manchester United, 61st-minute substitute Kubo used his weaker right foot to deliver an assist to fellow bench player Alexander Sorloth 10 minutes from time in front of his home fans at Reale Arena.

Kubo threaded his pass through the legs of a defender to allow the Norwegian forward to slot home, continuing his fine start to the season at his new club.

Ander Guevara found the top corner from the edge of the box to give La Real the lead on the half-hour mark of the Group E meeting before a defensive mix-up allowed Bruno to level for Omonia in the 72nd minute.

In the Europa Conference League, Yukinari Sugawara hammered in his first goal of the season as Dutch team AZ Alkmaar thrashed Vaduz of Lichtenstein 4-1 at home.

The defender, who was not named in the 30-man squad for Japan's upcoming World Cup warm-up matches this month against the United States and Ecuador, smacked the ball in low off the post to make it 3-1 in second-half stoppage time.
