Japan's Mao Saigo carded six birdies during the Evian Championship third round on Saturday, leaving her nine strokes off the pace and sitting in 15th at the fourth women's major of the year.

Saigo, at 8-under 205 following a bogey-free 65, was a shot ahead of compatriot and first-round leader Ayaka Furue, who had an even-par 71 on the day at the Evian Resort Golf Club with three birdies, one bogey and one double bogey to place 22nd.

Canadian Brooke M. Henderson remained at the top of the leaderboard following a 68, her 17-under 196 two strokes ahead of Ryu So Yeon of South Korea in second place.

Starting on the back nine, Saigo sank a 6-meter putt on No. 16 for her first birdie before getting another on No. 17, following a superb second shot from 110 meters out that landed near the pin.

"It's a confidence boost that I nailed the chances that I created with my shots," said Saigo, who added four more birdies on the front nine.

She revealed she had lost a note that had all the details of the course during the second round, and took a few hours to rewrite it from scratch overnight -- something that proved worthwhile.

"It was tough, but I'm glad I wrote it (again)," she said.
