Chicago Cubs rookie Seiya Suzuki hit the first home run of his Major League Baseball career in the team's 5-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Suzuki gave the crowd a thrill in the first inning with a two-out, three-run homer off Milwaukee starter Freddy Peralta -- a blast that traveled 412 feet and landed deep in the left field bleachers.

"I made good contact. It felt good," Suzuki said.

"But we lost so I'm not that happy. Every game is important."

Peralta started the game by walking Rafael Ortega, who then was caught stealing second. With two outs, Peralta walked Jonathan Villar and gave up a single to Alfonso Rivas. That set the stage for Suzuki's first major league homer.

The Japanese outfielder, who hit .315 across nine seasons with the Hiroshima Carp, signed a five-year contract worth $85 million back in March.

Suzuki went 1-for-3 in his third regular season game, drawing a walk, grounding out and striking out in his other plate appearances. He is hitting .375 with a homer, 6 RBIs and a .538 on-base percentage.

The Cubs won the first and third games of the series but the Brewers salvaged the final game thanks to a pinch-hit, go-ahead solo homer by Mike Brosseau in the seventh. The second game was postponed due to inclement weather.

At Angel Stadium in California, Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a double and played nine innings at DH in the Los Angeles Angels' 4-1 loss to the Houston Astros.
