Tokyo confirmed seven COVID-19 cases Monday, the lowest number this year, the metropolitan government said.

The figure reflects a downtrend across Japan, with Okinawa Prefecture reporting no positive cases Monday for the first time since July 18 last year.

The number in Tokyo fell below the previous record low for the year of nine cases on Nov. 1, with the seven-day rolling average standing at 23.

The number of coronavirus patients with severe symptoms remained unchanged from the previous day at 10, with no new deaths reported.

Monday's daily figure brought Tokyo's cumulative total of COVID-19 cases to 381,975.
