Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Sunday expressed eagerness to visit the United States soon for a meeting with President Joe Biden.

"Given that Japan-U.S. relations are the cornerstone of Japan's diplomacy, I would like to visit the United States as soon as possible for a Japan-U.S. summit," Kishida said after it became certain that his ruling coalition has retained its majority in the House of Representatives in the general election.

Kishida also told an NHK program that he wants to attend in person the leaders' session of U.N. climate talks in Glasgow, Scotland, in early November.
