An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 hit off the coast of Japan's eastern prefecture of Ibaraki on Wednesday morning, but no tsunami warning was issued, the weather agency said.

The quake that occurred at 5:33 a.m. registered 3 on the country's seismic intensity scale of 7 in the prefectures of Miyagi, Fukushima, Ibaraki and Tochigi, with the focus about 40 kilometers below the surface off the coast, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

Shortly after the temblor, another quake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.6 struck off Ibaraki Prefecture.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or property damage from the two quakes.
