The death toll in multiple blasts outside a girls' school in Kabul on Saturday has risen to over 50 with more than 100 others injured, local media reported Sunday.

A car bomb exploded outside the Syed Al-Shahda school in the west of Kabul on Saturday afternoon as the students were leaving for the day, followed by two more blasts, broadcaster TOLOnews reported.

The majority of the victims are girls, a teacher was quoted as saying, while other reports said many of them were pupils between 11 and 15 years old.

No group or individual have so far claimed responsibility for the blasts while a spokesman for the Taliban militants condemned the attack in a tweet.

The school is located in a Kabul neighborhood where many ethnic Hazaras, part of the country's Shiite Muslim minority, live.

Islamic State militants are also active in Kabul and have repeatedly targeted Shiites in terrorist attacks.

The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden is proceeding with the complete withdrawal of U.S. troops by Sept. 11, the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, and there are concerns about the deterioration of public security.
