Tokyo reported on Wednesday 409 coronavirus infections in its latest daily figures, the first time the count has exceeded 400 since Feb. 18.

Tokyo has seen a decrease in new cases since Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga's government declared a state of emergency on Jan. 7. However, the pace of decline has slowed, with recent seven-day average numbers exceeding those of previous weeks.

The tally brings the Japanese capital's cumulative cases to 116,293.

Tokyo and neighboring Kanagawa, Chiba and Saitama prefectures have been under the emergency, with the government considering whether to end the measure on Sunday as planned after two extensions.
