Visitors to a hot spring facility near Tokyo are able to bathe in the newest Beaujolais Nouveau red wine after the establishment kicked off Thursday a limited annual event, which sees staff pour the French wine into a bathtub.
The hot spring theme park Hakone Kowakien Yunessun in Kanagawa Prefecture moved the event outdoors for the first time in seven years to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, letting bathing suit-clad visitors enjoy scenic views of the mountains while sipping on -- and bathing in -- the wine.
The open-air bath, where partitions were set up to prevent people from crowding, is located at an altitude of approximately 700 meters, offering visitors a panoramic view of fall leaves.
This year's Beaujolais Nouveau went on sale in Japan the same day.
Wine is poured into the bath three times a day at noon, 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The event takes place through next Monday.
