The first international sports meet hosted by Japan since the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in March concluded Sunday without any apparent difficulties. Stringent measures were employed to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
- The number of Japanese companies introducing early retirement programs in the first 10 months of the year was more than double the level of the whole of the previous year amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to a survey by a research firm.

- Japan reported 1,323 new coronavirus cases Saturday, with record daily cases on the northernmost main island of Hokkaido and in the urban prefecture of Kanagawa, according to a Kyodo News tally based on official data, as experts warn the country faces higher infection risks as winter approaches.
- With injury forcing two grand champions out of the upcoming November Grand Sumo Tournament, the three ozeki wrestlers will take the spotlight in the final 15-day tournament of the calendar year disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.
- Japan will ease entry restrictions imposed to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus for athletes who will travel to the country for competition or training in the run-up to next summer's Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, government sources said Friday.
