BEIJING - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Saturday sent a message to U.S. President Donald Trump over his contracting of the novel coronavirus, wishing him a speedy recovery, according to Pyongyang's state media.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency quoted Kim as saying in the message that he "sincerely hoped" that he and his wife Melania, who has also tested positive for the COVID-19 disease caused by the virus, would recover "as soon as possible."

The message said Kim believes "they will surely overcome it."

Trump, who had long downplayed the threat of the virus, tweeted Friday that he and his wife have tested positive for it.
