Australian singer and the voice behind the 1972 feminist anthem "I Am Woman," Helen Reddy, died on Tuesday at the age of 78, her family said in a statement.
Reddy's children Traci and Jordan wrote on the singer's official Facebook page, "Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever."
Born in Melbourne in 1941, Reddy moved to the United States in her early 20s.
Her song "I Am Woman" reached No. 1 on the United States music charts in December 1972, and saw her become the first Australian artist to win a Grammy award in 1973.
At her acceptance speech at the Grammys award ceremony, Reddy said, "I'd like to thank God because she makes everything possible."
The artist was diagnosed with dementia in 2015 and died in Los Angeles.
