A female goat that lived for some three months on a 20-meter-high concrete embankment overlooking a railway line near Tokyo was unveiled to the public Saturday after being caught earlier this month.

Dubbed "Ponyo" by locals after an anime character in a Studio Ghibli Inc. movie titled "Gake no Ue no Ponyo" (Ponyo on the cliff), the goat is now at a tourist facility in Sakura, Chiba Prefecture.

The original Ponyo from the popular 2008 movie directed by Oscar-winning animation director Hayao Miyazaki is a fish that escaped and meets a boy.

"We received permission from (Studio) Ghibli to use the name. We hope that people will come see how cute she is," said a city official.

On Saturday, the goat was led to an outside enclosure by Sango Nishita, the city's mayor, to cries of delight from visitors.

Since Ponyo spent nearly three months fending for herself and has strong jumping skills, she is being reared in a specially made 1.7-meter-tall enclosure and kept apart from other goats for the time being.

Born in February, Ponyo was bought by a man in May to weed his grass. She escaped by jumping over a fence and wandered onto the nearby embankment.

Capturing the nimble-footed Ponyo proved difficult, especially given the location overlooking a busy train line. Ultimately, her owner resorted to using another goat to successfully lure Ponyo off the embankment, taking advantage of goats' tendency to live in herds.

"Ponyo" was later transferred to the city.
